How to become a Pilot In Europe: Complete Pilot Training by Kudzanai Chikohora
I honestly can’t recommend this book enough it’s ideal for anyone following the modular route and looking for clear guidance through each stage of pilot training in the UK and Europe. It explains the full journey from PPL to ATPL exams and on to airline applications, with a strong focus on practical planning and budgeting. Written by someone who has taken the modular path themselves, it’s a useful guide for avoiding common mistakes and staying on track. It’s also available via Audible for easy background listening.
Kudzi also has his own website where he documented most of his journey:

How To Become An Airline Pilot: The Definitive Guide by Pilot Bible
This is an overview of the different routes into airline flying, including modular, integrated, and MPL. It helps you understand the pros and cons of each path, with realistic advice on costs, timelines, and what to expect during training. A good resource for modular pilots who want to make informed decisions before committing to each step.
The PPL Companion: 45 Lessons to Guide You Through Flight Training by Daniel Coleman
This book provides a structured walk-through of each flight exercise in the PPL syllabus, explained in a clear and practical way. It’s especially helpful for modular students who may be learning part-time and want a reference they can return to between lessons. It also encourages you to think like a pilot early in your training, which makes later progress smoother. I read this book while away on holiday in Cyprus, finishing off the last pages on the return flight.

Physics and Maths for the PPL by Luis Burnay
A straightforward and accessible guide to the maths and physics needed for the PPL theory exams. It focuses on the essentials and presents them in a way that is easy to understand, even if you have not studied these subjects recently. A helpful companion for anyone preparing for ground school or revising key concepts.
Air Pilot’s Manual – Flying Training: Volume 1 by Dorothy Saul-Pooley and Esther Law
This is one of the core texts for UK PPL students and is often recommended by flight schools. It follows the official PPL syllabus in detail and explains each flight lesson with diagrams, procedures, and key learning points. For modular pilots, it serves as a reliable reference to reinforce what you cover in the air and in briefings. It’s structured, thorough, and ideal for building a strong foundation in the early stages of training.
